With differences in ideology in the state and federal governments, it is at the local level where policies have the ability to be protected and enforced.

As a renter, I can make a difference in how we protect people’s tenant rights as more renters come into Madison by working with city officials to update ordinances on tenants’ rights. We also need to work with unions to ensure that our essential workers are protected and their rights are upheld. As a union member, I understand the importance of protecting union workers who are part of the backbone of our workforce and bring essential knowledge on working conditions and worker’s rights. As the son of an immigrant, I know our immigrant communities are also the backbone of our workforce, and they should feel safe to live in our community rather than at risk of being separated from their family.

As someone who believes and works on reproductive justice, we also have to look at ways we are able to protect reproductive rights on the local level. We have the ability to implement public health programs that protect people’s reproductive freedoms by improving access to services and supporting community organizations implementing programs. As someone who has worked in the community to improve the lives of LGBTQ folx, I will work with city officials to protect and uphold our progress on LGBTQ+ rights because we owe to the people of Madison to keep being a community for people to come and be their most authentic selves.
