Community Matters
CARES Platform: Community. Affordability. Rights. Environment. Safety.
As a community organizer in downtown Madison, I have worked tirelessly to build community, lower rent, improve safety in downtown Madison, and protect our environment. As past President of the Campus Area Neighborhood Association and current President of Capitol Neighborhoods Inc., I have created multigenerational and multiracial coalitions to determine how local development projects and city zoning can better build our community through centering people and culture. I have been a part of the fight to lower rent for neighbors downtown through the local development processes and by engaging neighbors in providing feedback directly to development teams. I have led the petitioning of our local elected officials and spoken at city meetings to demand we do better as a community to create better solutions to lower the cost of housing in our city.
Community Investment includes:

Investing in places that bring people together
-
Creating ways for people to access local government easier
-
Investing in local businesses by creating opportunities for people to invest in our community and address the lack of Entrepreneurship on State Street that is leading to empty storefronts
-
Revisit zoning code to zone for community rather than zoning out community in Downtown Madison
-
Partner with the Ho-Chunk Nation and other Wisconsin First Nations to create community spaces that center our shared history with the Native people of Wisconsin and the history of the land before Madison existed.
-
Work with elder Madisonians to create opportunities for people to learn from the past of Madison and preserve significant cultural moments in Madison's history.
-
Investing in community space that brings together people from all backgrounds
